It's interesting why certain people are elected to public office. For some it's because the voters are satisfied with how things are or because they met the politician, for others it comes down to the politician being of the same party and/or race as the voter. Rarely does policy play a part.
In California, the Democrats have been given control of both house of the legislature since 1958. In only 2 two year periods separated by two decades, have the Republicans controlled one or both Houses only to give it back to the Democrats the following term.
For that unquestioning loyalty, the state has an unemployment rate of 12.3% with over 80,000 businesses having left the state just last year. Norwalk has 984 homes in foreclosure and had an unemployment rate of 12.9% as of November 2009. Carson has 871 foreclosures and 12.3% unemployment. Long Beach has 2,971 foreclosures and 13.4% unemployment. Meanwhile Sacramento's Philosophy of tax and spend has placed us in an impossible position of having a $20billion plus deficit. This philosophy implemented by the Democrats helped by Republicans like our Governor pushed the massive February 2009 tax hikes and May 2009 Propositions. Why should we continue down this suicidal path by continuing to elect representatives who continue to do the same things? This is insanity. Bill Lockyer was right when he said "two-thirds of the bills coming out of the legislature are junk" and Republicans culturally and occupationally know more about managing budgets and economies.
We have good potential Republican candidates who are business owners, city commissioners, and locally elected officials. They won't challenge these politicians due to registration and the vast sums needed to be elected to partisan office. They are either waiting until redistricting or focusing locally so that they can accomplish some good.
These Republicans know that by reducing taxation and regulation compliance costs, the fixed costs of businesses will be lowered. They know once these costs are lowered, businesses will pay down their debts and build up their savings. They also know once the business owners are comfortable with their debt and savings levels, they will expand their businesses by hiring new employees, invest in new equipment and technology, and/or give benefits and raises to employees.
None of this can happen while we continue to elect the same types of people who propose the same broken policies that have put us into this mess. The Democrats took over both houses of Congress in 2006, nearly two years later the stock market tanked and layoffs multiplied. Yes, they had help from President Bush and some Republicans. However, in our Republican system of government the power over domestic policy lies with the legislatures.
We have a chance to change our present destiny, if and only if we are willing to take a look in the mirror, call out those responsible for this mess and hold them accountable at the ballot box.
One last question, Had Enough?
Yours truly,
