| Club President's Message | Dear Friends,
In the next month there are a number of campaigns that could use help in turning out the vote before their June 8th election date. Below are candidates who I have all heard speak publicly about their candidacy and who have received the endorsements and/or support (when bylaws forbid endorsements) of their local Republican organizations.
In the 43rd Assembly District, which primarily consists of Burbank and Glendale, there is a Special Election to fill a seat left open when Paul Krekorian decided to run for L.A. City Council in a prior special election. The only Republican in the field is businessman and philanthropist Sunder Ramani. He is known in the communities as the go to guy when you need money raised for a charity and is a member of numerous clubs and both Chambers of Commerce. He is focusing his campaign on more jobs by lowering taxes and regulatory costs. This is one of the seats where the registration margin is close enough to make a typically low turnout special election upset a possibility, the key as always will be in turnout. http://ramaniforassembly.com/home.html or to contribute go to : https://www.completecampaigns.com/public.asp?name=Ramani&page=1
I have found out that the National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee (NRCC) believes they can take from the Democrats 4 to 6 seats in the 2010 election. One of the seats they are looking at is the 39th Congressional seat, for which club member Larry Andre is the Republican candidate. Larry has deep roots in the area. Larry's father, Willard, was employed by the Southern California Gas Company until he retired, when he began his second career at Biola University in La Mirada, California. He owns and runs two companies Masonry & Tile Tool and American Short Load Concrete, both based in the Lakewood/Long Beach area. To find out more go to http://www.voteandre.com and to contribute go to http://www.voteandre.com/contribute.html.
At the May meeting, should we have time, club members will vote on endorsements for the June Ballot.
For June 8th recommendations, including on judges go to:
Or Robyn Nordell's election recommendation website,
In the June newsletter I will link my recommendations to go along with those of Craig Huey and Robyn Nordell.
We will also be seeking volunteers to help with voter registration. Joan Pylman has volunteered to head up this operation, if you wish to help out call her at 562-865-6592 or email her at mojopylman@hotmail.com.
Yours truly,
Matt Kauble,
President of the Cerritos Republican Club
P.S. The 56th AD Republican Central Committee is in the process of putting together our precinct operations. If interested in participating please contact either myself (email: mskauble@hotmail.com; phone 562-743-1855) or Roger Garrett (email: mrupac@aol.com; phone: 562-843-1251) |

Over to the side are links to three initiatives currently either on the November Ballot, in signature verification or in circulation.
Charles Munger's Initiative adding Congressional Districts to the districts that are redistricted under the Citizen's Redistricting Commission qualified and will be on the November Ballot. http://www.votersfirstact.org.
The Local Government Protection Initiative is sponsored principally by the League of California Cities. This initiative is currently in the signature verification phase of qualifying for the ballot. It is reported that the League was able to secure twice the number of signatures that it needed. Should it qualify it will be on the November Ballot.
George Runner's Vote Safe Now Initiative is in circulation. This initiative does 3 things that reform the voting process.
1. It gives County Registrars offices more time to count military votes that are mailed in from overseas
2. Requires voters going into the polls to present photo I.D., just like we typically do when we go to the store and pay by check or credit card.
3. Creates an extra long flap that protects the voter's identification by concealing the voter's signature.
I have some extra forms that I will bring with me to our next meeting if you want to have some to circulate. |
| Up Coming Meetings | |
The Next Meeting of the Cerritos Republican Club is scheduled for Tuesday, May 11th starting at 7:00 PM in the Skyline Room of the Cerritos Library. Guest Speaker will be Jeffey Ball with a presentation by Past President Bruce Barrows on the upcoming Ballot Initiatives.
We will be dark in June, primarily because the next second Tuesday, falls on the day of the June Primary. We will get out in the next edition of the newsletter where to go if you want to participate in an election night party.
For our July Meeting, we will be over at Cerritos Park East in the North Picnic Shelter for our annual Cerritos Republican Club BBQ. Our guest speaker will be LA County Supervisor and Cerritos Republican Club member Don Knabe. Call Janice Dawson at 562-924-2474 to RSVP, so we know how much food to bring. |
