Barbara Stone was the guest speaker who talked about the preliminary results of the November 6 elections and their impact on the national and state level. It is true that the Democrats were able to gain a majority in the House of Representatives, but in the Senate, the Republicans maintained a majority. For a mid-term election, Trump actually did better than Obama in his first mid=term election. She also iterated that we Republicans must be more engaged with our conservative and moderate friends so that we can be better prepared for the next election.
During the Club business portion of this meeting, the slate of 2019 officers and chairpersons was presented and approved. They are Mark Dameron, President; Mark Rizk, Vice President; Ken Husting, Secretary; Matt Kauble, Treasurer; Dean Grose, Programs Chair; Joan Pylman, Membership Chair; Lew Gentiluomo, Hospitality Chair; Roger Garrett, Ways and Means Chair; and Dixie Primosch, Member-at-Large.
At the September General meeting, Brad Beach presided over the meeting.
Rita Topalian spoke more about her candidacy for the 32nd Senate District seat. Hers was a two part election. First she ran for the remainder of the term vacated by Tony Mendoza which was won by Vanessa Delgado. Now she is running for the full term against Bob Archuleta of Montebello.
Benjamin Ao was invited by the CRC Board to speak about the ABCUSD Bond Measure BB which will also be on the November 6 ballot. He passed out handouts which described the measure, listed the arguments and rebuttals for and against the measure, and some pros and cons of the measure.
The annual BBQ general meeting was held at Shelter #1 of Cerritos Park East.
At the June General meeting, the guest speaker was Dr. Barbara Stone. She spoke about how the turnout for the November 6 election may be low and in favor of Republican candidates.
At the May General meeting, the guest speaker was Mario Guerra.
At the April General meeting, Tracy Winkler presided over the meeting and the guest speaker was Mike Simpfenderfer, who is running for the Assembly District 58 seat in Congress. Mike talked about his candidacy.
At the March General meeting, Henry Lozano was the guest speaker. He is a nationally recognized authority in the areas of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse and prevention.
At the February General meeting, the guest speaker was Dr. Wen Chen, a representative of Epoch Media Group, who spoke about the persecution by the Chinese government of Chinese who belong to Falun Gong. Millions of the Falun Gong have disappeared and their organs have been harvested for transplants and "research."
